Overview

The course of the degree of Master of Arts in English shall consist of two academic years, consisting of four semesters. The course of study shall be based on Choice Based Credits System (CBCS) pattern with internal assessment. For this purpose each academic year shall be divided into two semesters. The First and Third Semesters cover the period from July to November and Second and Fourth Semester from December to April.

Overview

Bachelor of Arts in English (B.A) programme can be attained within three years of study. This programme typically focuses on imparting comprehensive knowledge and competency in the linguistic skills (LSRW) and communication skills in the English language. The degree programme helps learners as a basic programme, with which the learners may either pursue higher studies or seek employment.

Admission

A candidate shall be eligible for the award of the degree only is he/she undergone the prescribed course of study in the college affiliated to the University for a period of not less than two academic years, passed the examination of all the four semesters prescribed by earning minimum 50 percent of marks and fulfilled such conditions as have been prescribed thereafter.

PSO1 Read, understand, analyze, interpret, and extrapolate from the complex texts that are at the heart of the diverse traditions of the English language.
PSO2 Identify, analyze, interpret and describe the critical ideas, values, and themes that appear in literary and cultural texts and understand the way these ideas, values, and themes inform and impact culture and society, both now and in the past.
PSO3 Demonstrate a command of written academic English, including the abilities to a) organize and present material in a cogent fashion, b) formulate and defend original arguments, c) employ effectively the language of their discipline, and d) write under time constraints.
PSO4 Analyse, interpret, and understand the complex interrelationships between authors, texts, and specific social, political, and historical contexts and apply critical and theoretical approaches to the reading and analysis of literary and cultural texts in multiple genres.
PSO5 Write well in a variety of formats, including essays, research papers, reflective writing, and critical reviews of secondary sources and to cogently convey their own interpretations and perspectives, or produce new creative and artistic works themselves
PO1 Demonstrate an advanced knowledge of the subject, including the knowledge of literary history, genre criticism, literary theory, critical theory and research methodology.
PO2 Exhibit knowledge of journalism and mass communication and writing for media.
PO3 Use the communication skills and rhetorical skills while writing essays, articles, and project reports.
PO4 Respond to literature aesthetically and critically as informed readers.
PO5 Appreciate and  analyze gender relations and gender-oriented writing.
PO6 Evaluate and judge works available in translation.
PO5 Apply linguistic theories in the teaching of English, depending on the learner needs.
